The lake
- Walks in the wood and around the lake, boat rides. Availability of bicycles. Water sports (swimming, windsurf, sailing) on the Trasimeno lake at about 9 Km, as well as regular ferries for the islands on the lake. The nearest horse riding school and golf course are 5 Kms and 12 Kms away respectively.
- Many restaurants with local cuisine are nearby, some of them offer a discount to our guests.
- Shopping: several local markets are in the area; auction houses in Chianciano and other towns; the large Valdichiana outlet, with several discounted designer shops; a direct sale to the public at the factory shops of several well known brands (Ellesse, Perugina, Prada, Gucci, Primigi, La Font etc…); renowned antique fairs in Cortona, Arezzo and Perugia.
Around lake Trasimeno numerous events take place:
- Culture and folklore: Coloriamo I cieli (Castiglion del Lago, April-May) international kite show; Infiorata (Città della Pieve, June) traditional display of plants and flowers around the town; Palio delle barche (Passignano, July) boat race in traditional clothes on the lake and along the streets; jazz and blues concerts (several towns, July, November and on Christmas holidays); Palio dei Terzieri (Città della Pieve, August) medieval parade along the streets followed by an archery competition; Bruscello (July), theatrical medieval representation, and Bravio delle botti (September), race on foot pushing a wine barrel, in Montepulciano; alive or monumental Nativities (December); reproduction of medieval shops, medieval parades and several music festivals.
- Food and wine: Festival of the forest asparagus (April-May); oil mills open to the public with free tasting in autumn; markets of local products; Wine Trails where several wine growers welcome the visitors in their cellars offering free samples; several local festivals with typical local food at a low price and line dancing.
- Sport and fitness: Strasimeno (March) a 58 Km marathon around the lake; Trekking delle ginestre (May) walks in the area; the motocross circuit of Gioiella (at 5 Km), the most important of its kind in Italy, hosts several races, the Italian stage of the World Championship included; horse races; cycling tours and foot races.
The internationally famous Umbria Jazz (July) and Eurochocolate in Perugia (October) are also to be mentioned.
For the young ones: several clubs are in the area and a water park is a few Kilometres away. Olympic size pools in Chianciano.
For the small ones: Città della Domenica, on the road to Perugia, theme park where a cheerful train takes them to different attractions (Pinocchio’s whales, Snowhite’s house etc…). Young people theatre (January-April).
